Creating New Road across Zigoto swamp in Nalyankanja Parish - Bulera Sub county Mityana District

Bulungi Bwansi ( Self Help) Project: Creating New Road across Zigoto swamp

Center for Community Transformation Uganda in colloboration with Bulera sub county leadership under the Chairmanship of Mr. Sserunjoji Joseph, leaders of Nalyanknja Parish and  the Community of Bukooka Village  committed towards creating a road across Zigoto swamp .

this work  commenced on Wednesday  7th August 2019, with slashig / cuting of papyrus and grown grass through the swamp. According to the residents, no road has ever existed since time in memorial, it ws only the brave individuals who could rist to cross the swamp using a foot path in the swamp. the children and women could not dare!

Bulungi Bwansi ( Self help ) program

Background to the program
In an effort to revamp our community, Center for Community Transformation Uganda,started a program  - Bulungi Bwansi ( self help ) program to to support the commuity to be able to realise the interventions being made by the Uganda government both at the central level an local government level, faith based organizations, NGOs private firms and individuals, for the specific good of indicduals in the community and for collective good of communities .

The overall goal is of the program is to ensure that individual community members practically realise wealth in their homes and and also to ensure that as communities they appreciate development in their areas.

What Bulungi bwansi program entails

This program combines and invloves mobilising the community to do  all sorts of  activities on a voluntary basis ( at no pay)  to support the common good of society in all sectors of the community life. In works (roads) and water sector self help activities include but not limited to clearing /rebuilding of water sources such as  shallow wells, digging and clearing off the grass, filling of soil into into potholes  gullies found on community roads which make them impassable, putting on off-shoots, installing concrete  culverts on constructed or existing community access roads, creating new access roads to ease community members movement, constructing  / rehabilitating shallow wells, drilling bore holes  and repair  boreholeof including installing protection around them,

In health and sanitation some of the  activities include ensuring that house holds have toilet facilities, they store water in clean containers or jericans and  drink cooked water, ensuring that they live a tidy environment as well as being tidy themselves, eating well and eating good food to have a health body and mind, managing domestic waste, clearing of the upcoming towns off with gabbage and unwanted  materials, teaching the house how to manage domestic gabage/waste, ,providing health units or centers with health requirements /needs that are critical in health services provision to the community, assisting the elderly, ovcs,  widows in the community to access basic medical care.

In agriculture, some of activities include  ensuring that homes/ families have well looked after gardens - good looking and promising from an agricultural point of view, good looking /healthy domestic animals able to support the recurrent financial needs of the family/house holds from a veterinary point of view

Security, under here working with police, courts and prisons, churches and leaders , voluntary activities include decampaigning all forms of  social evil such as thefty or stealing habits, domestic violence, redundancy among youth and community members, taking  marijuana by portraying their negative effects on society, families and to an individual person

Education, the activities we do under here are aimed at having students learning non academic but critical aspects of life. We speak to them about  real life, we provide to less previllledlged school s water tanks and or build underground tanks harvest water from school roofs, construction of class rooms, toilets, provide scholarships to students and any education related service
